It’s a special privilege for me to have as my guest this week, physicist and theologian, Dr. Edgar Andrews from the UK. Dr. Andrews is the author of Who Made God? Searching for a Theory of Everything , which has been described as, “Thought-provoking, witty, extremely readable, and ultimately devastating in his critique of evolutionary atheism–demonstrating that a right understanding of the scientific enterprise poses no threat to biblical Christianity — indeed, that the kind of world we live in is precisely what the biblical account of God and creation would lead us to expect.”
Who Made God? is an excellent book for the Christian layman, as well as the everyday skeptic of Christianity—a great book to read and then share with your non-Christian friends and family. Continue reading
Who Made God by Edgar Andrews offers a witty, heady read for Christians looking to interact with some of the most recent scientific theories. Targeted at Christians who have been befuddled by the latest scientific theories, interested skeptics who want to see if Christianity has anything to say about science, or Christian apologists looking to bolster their scientific knowledge, the book is a resounding success.
Interestingly, Andrews gets the title of the book out of the way quickly. Andrews argues against the common atheistic retort, “Well if God made everything, who made God?” He writes, “Because cause and effect is only proven for the physical world, we can no longer insist that cause and effect are relevant when it comes to the origin of a spiritual entity like God.” I am not sure about the strength of this response. It seems to potentially put God outside the rules of logic, something of which most theists are very wary. A more convincing response, in my opinion, is to simply point out that the concept of God includes necessity. Theistic arguments are designed to show just this–that God is the uncaused ground of being. Continue reading
In light of the recent ENCODE results, we wanted to get Dr. Edgar Andrews’ take on the matter, particularly as it concerns his debate with Dr. Richard Dawkins. It is said that the last “creationist” Dr. Dawkins debated, before refusing to debate creationists (as defined by Dr. Dawkins), was Dr. Andrews. After listening to this debate, I discussed it with Dr. Andrews and he permitted me (Maryann Spikes) to share some of his comments.
You can listen to the beginning of the debate (Apologetics315) or skip to Dr. Andrews’ contribution (Oxford).
The rest of this post is by Dr. Andrews, regarding his debate with Dr. Dawkins and the ENCODE results: Continue reading
